Looking Back at Three Years
What a ride!
I’ve been in this industry for over three years. I’ve seen a lot and experienced so much. I’ve met some great people and some of them will be lifelong friends, whether they are in business with me or not.
I remember the day I told my wife I wanted to get into this industry. She said, “But 98% of marketers fail.”
I replied, “That’s better than 99% or 100%. I love that I’ve got a shot to be in that two percent.”
I quickly got the education and it’s one thing I recommend. Find out how and what the top marketers are doing and learn from them.
Personal Development Is Key
This also goes beyond the business side. I love personal development training and without it, it would be very difficult to succeed.
I had previous business experience in another industry so I had an edge with personal development. I also played collegiate athletics, so I felt I had the work ethic and drive to succeed.
To get better in business doesn’t just mean improving business skills. You won’t get very far if you aren’t improving daily by reading books, listening to audios or attending workshops.
Business and personal development go hand-in-hand.
Communication Is So Important
Little did I know how much a college degree in communications would come into play. If you don’t know how to communicate with people, then success will be tough. But on top of that, you have to actually care about people.
In this industry, helping other marketers is very valuable. For me, my mentors in the early days showed me the way and freely shared tips and advice. These days I pass those on to to my marketing friends and people on my team.
We are all here for one thing and that is to build a business (ethically of course) and help others build their business. Most of us, if not all, want to provide a better future for ourselves and our families. This industry is a great vehicle for that.
It took many lessons learned and a lot of struggling before I finally reached the success I wanted. I always kept an open mind about different opportunities until I found the right ones.
